Why Exfoliating is Important

Lifting dead skin cells from your skin with the aid of a brush, loofah chemical, granular material gentle rubbed or washed over your skin is called Exfoliating. Your skin will take spontaneously every 30 days or so starts to sheds dead skin cells to create new cells.

Dead cells do not always discard completely, and using exfoliating, and you can assist this process fully… As a result, dry, flaky patches and clogged pores can grow. Exfoliating can assist in preventing this.

Exfoliating Your Face + Body

That is where I am here to help – explaining to you the advantage and where to exfoliate, how long to exfoliate, and the differences between physical and chemical exfoliation, where the skin type comes into play, and other topics.

Why is exfoliating so important?

The mechanism of cell regeneration slows down as we age. This ensures that the body sheds skin cells and generates new ones at a slower pace.

When old skin cells accumulate on the skin’s surface, it can cause the skin to appear black, rough, and dry. Furthermore, the accumulation of dead skin cells can cause excess oil and clogged pores, resulting in blemishes and acne.

Exfoliation eliminates the barrier of dead skin cells that clogs the skin and exposes fresh new cells underneath. This helps moisturising products to penetrate deeper into the skin, making them more powerful. In short, exfoliating regularly will keep your skin looking young and healthy.

Your skin is the largest organ in your body.

The skin is the body’s largest and heaviest organ. An organ is identified as a group of cells in an organism that collaborates to perform a specific function. It’s plain to see how our skin is constantly working for us. As a result, we must take good care of it. Exfoliating dead cells is a part of the process.

The skin serves more purposes than you might have realised. First, it hides our bodies from the outside world (aside from the obvious organs, bones, and so on). It’s watertight! It is still evolving and regenerating. Fourth, it controls our internal temperature and is a huge communication system with millions of nerve endings that tell our brain about external stimuli, what is healthy, and, more importantly, what is not.

How Much Do We Shed Skin and Where Does It Go?

So don’t get too freaked out. Every hour, between 30,000 and 40,000 skin cells fall off your body. Every single hour! Isn’t that incredible? Over 24 hours, you lose nearly a million skin cells. And this isn’t due to any special efforts. That is just from walking around! Oh, no! Hence I am OCD about washing my sheets regularly – I spend over eight hours laying on those sheets, pillows.

  • Where Does My Shed Skin Go?

The dust accumulated on your tables, chairs, TV, windowsills, and other items are mostly dead human skin cells. Basically, your house is packed with relics of yourself. Over a year, you can lose more than 8 pounds of dead skin. It weighs eight pounds! It’s pretty awesome, apart from being gross and a never-ending dusting chore!

Is it necessary to exfoliate my skin?

Some of the things you may find about your skin in the course of this article are that your skin will benefit from exfoliation are as follows:

  • Improvements in rough texture or appearance
  • Only Supposedone with the Right products. Using specifically formulated Skincare products and exfoliating gently, acne or other forms of breakouts can be minimised. For example, I love using Rodan and Fields Unblemish Clarifying Toner – Exfoliates, calming and soothing your acne-prone skin + clears pores and brightens tone. You can use this daily.
  • Improvements with discolouration – using Rodan and Fields Reverse Step 1 Deep Exfoliating wash. Exfoliates and refines sun-damaged, blotchy skin for a brighter and refreshed face
  • Texture and tone are uneven – Using Rodan and Fields Reverse Regimen ( Dullness, Uneven skin tone and texture, Fine lines and wrinkles).
  • Sun damage and age spots
  • Having skin that is oily, flaky, and irritated.

Why Is Exfoliating Important?

Exfoliating can help your skin look healthier in a variety of ways. The American Academy of Dermatology has stated that exfoliation can make your skin look brighter and increase the efficacy of topical skincare products by increasing absorption.

Exfoliation regularly can also help avoid clogged pores, resulting in fewer breakouts.

Exfoliating regularly will boost collagen production. Collagen is important for healthy, glowing skin. The protein also enhances skin elasticity, reducing the development of fine lines and sagging.

How Often Should I Exfoliate?

Your body’s skin is less sensitive than your face’s skin and can tolerate a more rigorous exfoliation routine. For your face again, I would only recommend every 3-4 days. If you have the right products with active ingredients and not physically exfoliating, you could use them daily. I speak of Rodan and Fields Unblemish Clarifying Toner – which is used after cleansing it gently, removing dead skin.

I don’t have acne, but I use this Toner every few days to take off the dead skin. I like how it can exfoliate, calm my skin, and help brighten my skin tone.

Why Is Exfoliation Necessary?

The exfoliation of dead skin every 3 – 4 days helps avoid fine lines and wrinkles on “ordinary” skin types is greatly beneficial.

  • Exfoliating the skin keeps it soft, smooth, and radiant!
  • It aids in the cleaning of pores and the prevention of clogging.
  • It assists in the absorption and preservation of moisture by your skin.
  • It assists in the prevention of ingrown hairs.

Exfoliation considerably aids in the regeneration of the largest organ by eliminating dead wasted skin cells. The normal shedding process of your body is slowed by age, sun damage, and hormonal changes. Exfoliating assists in the elimination of dead skin cells.

It eliminates and prevents acne by removing bacteria from your skin.

It makes dusting easier because there is less dead skin floating around your house, just kidding.

What Can You Anticipate From Exfoliation?

A physical exfoliant is an exfoliating substance or process that involves manual scrubbing; I really prefer the word – rubbing.

You may now be utilising a physical exfoliant, such as cleansing scrubs, body brushes, or loofahs. On my body, I prefer to use Rodan and Fields – ENHANCEMENTS MICRO-DERMABRASION PASTE.

The most important advantage of physical exfoliation is its ease of use. However, this dermabrasion paste does provide instant results.

Physical exfoliation can irritate your skin and cause transepidermal water loss if done incorrectly. Using a great body lotion or hydrating serum afterwards may reduce inflammation and lock in moisture.

Materials For manual exfoliation, there are a few abrasive materials to choose from, including:

  • scrubs for cleaning – Rodan and Fields Enhancement Micro-Dermabrasion Paste.
  • mitts for exfoliating
  • Stiff Body Brushes – I love a long handle brush for my back.
  • Pumice stones – only on my heels.
  • Microneedling or micro derma rollers are two types of microneedling – I use the Rodan and Field REDEFINE AMP MD SYSTEM.

My Most Successful Exfoliation Methods

When it comes to skincare and trying great skincare products to combat the signs of ageing, I’m a bit of a fanatic. But, unfortunately, I’m also a major scrooge, and I won’t waste thousands of dollars on stuff that don’t work.

Over the last 50 or so years, I am super confident that I have discovered the safest and cost-effective ways to exfoliate dead skin cells from my body and face, all from the comforts of my home.

I’ve discovered that I enjoy exfoliating my skin and have integrated this ritual into my ever-changing fight against Father Time.

  • Body Scrubs -Rodan and Fields Microdermabrasion paste
  • Drinking plenty of high-quality water
  • Since our bodies are approximately 50-65 per cent water, it is clear that we need plenty of it.
  • Water is important for our bodies because it keeps us hydrated (which contributes to our youthful appearance) and our cells plump.
  • After Exfoliating, I ensure I use Sun Protection.

Exfoliating Sensitive Skin, i.e. your face.

When exfoliating sensitive areas of the body, such as the face, use caution. Exfoliating these areas too much can cause dryness, redness, and itching.

So when I started with Rodan and Fields Soothe, I would only exfoliate once a week. However, with consistent use of the Soothe Regimen, I found my skin sensitivity diminishing. So I moved onto Rodan and Fields Reverse, a gentle exfoliating wash; I would use this twice daily.

Exfoliating For Body

Your skin type determines the type of exfoliant you can use on your face. Apply scrub to your body gently with your finger to exfoliate it mechanically. Circular movements should be used when rubbing. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.

Rodan and Fields Micro-dermabrasion Paste has –

Proprietary Technology + Key Ingredients:

Vitamin C: skin to unveil younger, more vibrant cells

Vitamin E & Bisabolol: Calms skin for brighter, smoother-looking skin

Consult a dermatologist to decide the best method of exfoliation for your skin.

Exfoliating Your arms and legs

Exfoliating your arms and legs with a brush, sponge, or glove is the most convenient process. Greatly assisting the elimination of dead skin cells and the stimulation of circulation.

My next step would be Rodan and Fields Micro-Dermabrasion paste to lather up in the tub. Dry brushing is another choice.

Exfoliating Your Hands and feet

I love using a Pumice Stone to exfoliate your feet and hands. Once I have done this – I would go back usually in the bath and use the Enhancements Micro-dermabrasion paste.

This gentle sugar and salt-based face + body scrub sloughs away dull, dead skin cells and encourage younger, more vibrant cells to the surface, so you see brighter, smoother skin after just one use. Suitable for dry, oily and combination skin. Not intended for sensitive skin.

Exfoliating For Bikini Weather

You should exfoliate your bikini line and pubic region with a loofah or a body brush. Often do this after a warm shower to smooth the skin. Next, apply the Enhancements Rodan and Fields Micro-Dermabrasion to scrub gently, and then thoroughly wash your hands.

How Long Should I Exfoliate My Skin?

The Derms recommend that you only exfoliate for 30–60 seconds, massage directly onto the face or body. Until using, do not wet the skin.

  • Thoroughly rinse and pat dry.
  • For the face, use a cleanser instead.
  • Applying the Micro-dermabrasion paste to the body before moisturising.
  • For a gentler exfoliation, apply to moist skin and progressively add water to minimise the pressure of the exfoliation.
  • Not suitable for people with sensitive skin.

How much do you exfoliate your skin?

My recommendation is to not exfoliate no more than twice a week on your face and maybe three times on your body, feet, and hands.

Mechanical Ways You Can Exfoliate Your Skin

I have tried the Rodan and Fields MD System, so after 1 year with Soothe Regimen. When I started with the Ramp up with the Reverse Regimen, I also tried this treatment.

Guess What! Your skins fine lines and wrinkles can be conquered by rolling them away. Our micro-exfoliating Derma-Roller is used in the AMP MD System to boost absorption and accelerate the effects of our skin-revitalising Intensive Renewing Serum for more refined, cleaner, firmer-looking skin.

Typical Application: 3 days a week. Main BENEFITS: Firms and refines rough texture, resulting in younger-looking, smoother skin.

The AMP MD System contains a derma-roller, serum, and cleaning tablets to improve and accelerate performance.

Rodan and Fields AMP MD Derma-Roller and REDEFINE Intensive Renewing Serum are highlighted in this visibly transformative skin-revitalising method. These potent products act in tandem to the firm, smooth, and optimise the appearance of skin while amplifying measurable effects.

SKIN WORRIES: Wrinkles and folds, loss of firmness, irregular texture

Can Exfoliating Lead to Acne?

Exfoliate only with products created for Acne-prone skin. This means avoiding harsh chemicals or physical agents that can cause the skin to become inflamed and irritated.

Exfoliation that is too harsh, either in terms of intensity or frequency, may aggravate acne. In this case, more is not better. After exfoliating, moisturise the skin.

I recommend to my clients the Rodan and Fields Unblemish Regimen if they have mild-to-moderate acne and are prone to breakouts.

Rodan and Fields Derm Multi-Step Science are specifically formulated to provide the right ingredients, working together in the best formulations, in the correct order, + customised to the needs of your skin.

The UNBLEMISH Regimen consists of four products specifically intended to work together to clear adult acne and noticeably boost signs of ageing.

Salicylic acid and colloidal sulphur absorb excess sebum and clear pores to neutralise acne blemishes, whereas Benzoyl peroxide and ceramides battle acne and maintain the skin’s natural integrity.

Furthermore, Hyaluronic Acid and Natural Extracts moisturise and soothe the skin, giving it a youthful and elevated appearance.

Can I Apply A Body Product To My Face And Vice Versa?

It would be best if you did not do so. Scrubs and other exfoliating products for your body are usually more robust than products for the skin on your face.

Remember that the skin on your face is more fragile than, say, the skin on your arms and legs. Therefore a body exfoliant product being used on your face can cause injuries and other discomforts.

Using a facial exfoliator on your body is unlikely to cause damage, but the formula might not be sufficient enough to achieve the desired results. So my recommendation is to do what the Derms Dr Rodan and Dr Fields recommend for my skin.

Can Exfoliating Get Rid Of My Natural Tan?

No, it will not. A natural tan develops in the layers of skin that are still alive (specifically, the stratum basale); believe me, removing that would be uncomfortable (and you’d bleed). Exfoliating will only remove the dead skin cells on top of the skin. Exfoliating your skin will make it look smoother and less ashy, then applying a hydrating body moisturiser.

Hydration from head to toe. With our revolutionary body moisturiser, you can get younger-looking, younger-acting skin that immediately + constantly hydrates while preventing future moisture loss.

The Outcomes

This ultra-hydrating body moisturiser will leave your skin visibly softer, cleaner, and more nourished. It is a ground-breaking body moisturising cream that offers immediate and consistent body hydration while also avoiding potential moisture loss, resulting in younger-looking, younger-acting skin.

What Causes Breakouts When You Exfoliate?

Scrubbing your face would seem to keep it clean enough that acne wouldn’t be an issue, but doing so too much may have the opposite impact.

When you exfoliate properly, you can help rid acne by removing dead skin cells that clog pores. When you overdo it, though, you also get rid of all those healthy skin cells that protect your skin’s natural barrier.

The result is just what you were attempting to avoid.

The result is just what you were attempting to avoid. This can cause hypersensitivity, which can lead to breakouts. You may be the root of your own acne.

My clients using the Unblemish Regimen, created specifically for those with Acne, allow you to exfoliate without overdoing this process and increasing your acne breakouts.

Our UNBLEMISH regimen will help you maintain clear, youthful skin while battling the signs of ageing. In addition, we’ve perfected salicylic acid with colloidal sulphur to combat acne.

Containing Hyaluronic acid, ceramide, and natural extracts are often used to help maintain youthful skin, making it feel more soothed and relaxed.

The Derms formulated our invisible, wide spectrum UVA defence into this non-film finish, giving you a non-shine finish on all skin tones and making makeup apply better and last longer. In addition, more frequent use of your cream can lead to greater self-assurance and confidence in your skin’s condition.

Exfoliating: Does It Make My Scars Worse?

Since exfoliation does offer observable short-to-medium-term changes that are orders of magnitude greater than the exfoliation procedure.

The exception is that if the type of treatment is safe enough, both chemical peels and lasers may be made to affect the dermal field.

However, this can cause issues because it can ‘permanently’ increase your vulnerability to sunlight, cause further scarring, and require months of downtime in the worst-case scenario.

Needling/dermabrasion/dermapen therapies tend to be the best and have the most long-lasting outcomes. The healing time is the most critical part of any treatment.

Edit: Needling, when performed correctly (with the right equipment), affects the dermis and, in principle, offers a more “permanent” solution. However, it necessitates many procedures, but this is compensated because they are often much less costly.

Should I Get Exfoliation Done Professionally?

This is dependent on your own skincare needs and what you hope to benefit from exfoliating. I do go to a Skin Spa every 6 weeks and get a facial done. I usually get Micro-dermabrasion, a great cleansing with a steamer. I do get some “Red” Ultra-violet light done, and this is my pamper session.

In the 6 weeks, I will do my daily skincare rituals, cleansing, and exfoliating. If you are unsure, a dermatologist will advise you on the best method or product for your skin.

What Type Of Exfoliation Do The Professionals Use:

Scrubs for the body – Professional scrubs are usually made of different materials than over-the-counter models.

Peels made from chemicals. The acid concentration is the primary differentiation between home and professional peels.

Professional peels are more potent and can be used in conjunction with other drug topicals for full effect.

Dermaplaning the process of the removal of dead skin cells from the skin. Your supplier will use a scalpel blade to scrape dead skin and baby hairs from your face and neck.

Microdermabrasion is a form of skin exfoliation. The provider can use fine crystals or a special needing-tipped tool to extract dead skin cells to exfoliate the skin.

VOILA – You have completed Exfoliating How To 101#

That is everything there is to it. All you need to do is start. Then, I can offer you some advice. I have tried all Rodan and Fields Products, and I might be able to offer you a fresh set of eyes on your skin concerns.

It might lead to glowing, radiant skin that is acne-free and wrinkle-free!

There are so many easy and reasonable things you can do to get into the skin you’re intended to have.

This material is accurate and true to the best of my knowledge and experience using the products. Still, it is not intended to replace formal and personalised guidance from a trained professional.
